Today, I'm not really talking about scaling mountains to do yoga, I've done exactly one of those and it wasn't yoga. But, I'm here to talk about pushing limits in writing. Pull up a chair and I'll describe what it's like to be me when it comes to horror. Have you ever gotten a splinter or a paper cut on the crease of your thumb? Hurts, right?
It's not so much the pain as it is that you can't stop thinking about it for a long time. And as soon as you do, that dang cut or splinter catches on something stupid like a tissue or a blanket and wham, wide awake thinking about nothing but that stupid little injury. Well, that's me and horror and every single noise I hear after that. It's really weird because I grew up telling creepy stories around the campfire, but reading and watching them are something else.
So, when an opportunity came to write for this really cool showcase called the SUMMER OF SCREAMS about scary camp stories, I saw a chance to challenge fears and maybe overcome them. Maybe. Well, I had four nights with very little sleep over this one short story entitled THE SECRETS OF MOTHS.
It goes live on Wednesday and I will post the link in a separate post. So, keep your eyes open and tell me how I did pushing my own boundaries. I may never do it again because I'm still pretty jumpy, but hey, what is life without stepping to the edge and looking down? That is something I have done, more than once.
